What Is A Physical Hook?

Recently Instagram updated its Reel insights to show us our watch time and audience retention. It looks like the screenshot above. If you have a Youtube channel you'll know all about this insight. For estheticians, this data can be a game-changer in esthetician marketing strategies and content creation.

This insight allows you to see where viewers drop off when watching your videos. Rewatch that time stamp and analyze. You may need to adjust your future videos on that topic to either be a bit shorter, provide more value, or add a visual aid to keep the viewer hooked. Understanding when your audience loses interest can help you fine-tune your esthetician marketing campaigns.

Don't be afraid of your audience retention insight. It's such a great tool for growth as it removes the guessing game. We no longer have to wonder why people aren't watching fully. We can see exactly when they drop off. This makes your job so much easier.

Here are some tips to boost your watch time:

👉Create shorter videos. Think 7 seconds for lip-syncing or pointing to text videos and 30-60 seconds for educational videos.

👉Use a physical hook. You know when you see a TikToker starting their video by applying lip gloss? Yeah, that's intentional. It gives you something to look at for the first few seconds which in the end boosts watch time. This is why it can be helpful to be doing something while talking. This is also why the popular "get ready with me" videos work so well. While listening to you talk there is more for your viewer to look at.

👉Ensure the topic is adjusted to fit a current feeling your audience wants to feel or a goal they wish to achieve. Above all having a tuned-in community will ensure a higher watch time. You get this by doing the work to REALLY understand who is following you.
